Who Needs Toilet Paper?

Okay, there should have been a picture but I ran into formatting problems. This will entail bringing my computer into the cybercafe and using the wireless. Inshallah (God willing) this will happen before swear-in Sept. 6.

Otherwise, things are good in the RIM! I've been in country going on two months now and the life gets easier as well as the language-Hassaniya, an Arabic dialect. I'm living with a host family near the traning center in Kaedi for immersion. It's tough, and there have been moments I have wanted to leave, but I am mainly looking forward now.

My permanent site will be Nema-if you head east on the goudron, or Road of Hope, Nema is the last city, literally at the end of the road. I swear, the road stops in the market! It is a fantastic opportunity, though. Nema is a new site for Peace Corps so I and my three sitemates will be blazing trails for future volunteers. And speaking of sitemates, I'm pretty lucky. Edna will be teaching English at their high school, Dave is working in Health, and Heather is Small Enterprise Development. They are great people and I thank God for them.

As to the title of today's entry, we don't use toilet paper here. There is a pot of water called a makarej. That and your left hand. I'll leave the rest up to your imagination. :)
