All by myself
So tonight I'm reading a Nora Roberts novel and eating powdered milk (seriously, I didn't even bother to add water) for dinner. Heather, Edna, and Dave better come back soon.
Ok, actually I'm reading the NR tripe to take a break from the uncomfortable intensity of a Neil Gaiman short story anthology. Don't get me wrong, I love all his work, but I can't handle it for long periods of time. At least not here. And I swear I never read Nora Roberts before coming here! I swear!
And the powdered milk? Well, it's just, well, good! And good for you, maybe? Hey, there's no soy nut butter here but I have to eat something, right?
And life is good, swamped slightly by work, but enjoying it. Strangely, I like it here. But I do really miss my sitemates. They're in Saint-Louis, Senegal for the Jazz Festival. I needed to stay here for work and to save moolah, so it was a choice. I've been on my own before, for shorter periods, but this is starting to eat at me. I miss Heather's incredible pasta sauce, long talks with Dave about the intransigence of language (whatever that means-I may have made up that word, too), and Edna's calming presence (I really think she's a better, slightly younger version of me-better taste in music, too). As a wise person once said, "People are more fun than anybody." Take that any way you want, but it's absolutely true. Come back, guys, I miss you!
